About Me

— Rachel White, The Flower Garden

Hi there! My name is Rachel, and I love all things flowers. I grew up in England with a Mum who was an amazing gardener but I was always intimidated to grow anything until the last few years. I rediscovered my roots and now grow English country garden inspired flowers in my back garden in Gig Harbor, WA. I'm drawn to whimsical, delicate, fragrant and romantic blooms, and love to create arrangements that bring the recipient the same joy as I find making it!

How It All Began

It was the pandemic and I stood staring at the dahlia tubers in Home Depot for what must have been long enough for someone to notice. An older gentleman came up behind me and said "just do it, they grow great here!" I walked out with two bags of tubers, planted them in my front yard and so it began. The dinner plate size dahlias were as big as my head, and became the start of many a conversation with my neighbors.

Around the same time someone (I still don't know who!) anonymously gifted me a rose for my birthday. I potted it up and at the end of the season I put it in the ground. It has grown bigger every year and it now towers above my front porch. The most gorgeous, sweet smelling apricot blooms cover this plant from top to bottom.

At the end of the summer 2023, I chose to cut all my dahlias and give them away. It was so much fun, I just had to find a way to be able to do it again. And so began my growing journey... I spent the following year studying, planning, planting and tending to a flower garden. What began as two bags of tubers is now a full English country garden, maximizing every inch of space in my neighborhood back yard.

A Life Changing Discovery

For many years I struggled with seasonal depression, but the joy of giving and growing flowers brought me healing and hope. Sharing flowers with others connected me to community, reflecting on the life lessons in the garden deepened my faith, and enjoying the beauty and creativity of flower arranging brought rejuvenation to my spirit.

I'm thrilled to share the joy of the flowers with you through The Flower Garden, and excited about how they can change your life for the better too!

Fast Forward To Today

The Flower Garden business was born in 2024 at the encouragement of my daughter Evelyn.

Every day from April - October the flower stand is stocked with fresh blooms cut and arranged from The Flower Garden. Custom arrangements are available throughout the year to gift to loved ones and celebrate special occasions. I run bouquet workshops seasonally to share the joy and knowledge I've learnt of arranging flowers. And I've written down my reflections and lessons from the garden, coupled with photographs of the flowers, in a book called Cultivating Beauty.

The blooms continue to help me and many others to grow in grace and share joy, and I'm so thrilled to get to share the love of flowers with you. I love hearing the stories of how these simple but beautiful blooms have brought joy, tears, nostalgia, hope, comfort, peace, gratitude and connection to so many. If you have a story to share, I'd love to hear from you! You can email me at theflowergardengigharbor@gmail.com
